The Cherkasy Regional Election Commission has ordered an investigation into a dispute with a veteran
The leadership of the Cherkasy Regional Center for Recruitment and Social Support has launched an internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the conflict between the center’s employees and a war veteran.
The Cherkasy Recruitment and Social Support Center announced this on Facebook.
“In light of the information circulating online regarding the conflict with a veteran in the Chyhyryn district, we would like to report the following. The leadership of the Cherkasy Regional Military Recruitment and Social Support Center has ordered an internal investigation to thoroughly clarify all the circumstances. Any displays of disrespect toward veterans and actions that threaten civilians are absolutely unacceptable. The circumstances of the incident are currently being established,” the statement reads.
The day before, the NGO “Veterans of the Motherland” reported on the incident on Facebook.
“On May 16, 2026, in the Chyhyryn district, a vehicle driven by a volunteer—an active-duty serviceman undergoing rehabilitation, a war veteran (with an amputated leg), holder of combat awards and a personalized weapon, and a combat sergeant named Volodymyr—was stopped by TCC and SP personnel. His wife and child were also in the car,” the organization noted.
According to the report, the veteran’s car was stopped on a dirt road, and the driver and passengers were threatened with a weapon: “A dirt road, a group of people in camouflage, a pistol, a round in the chamber, tear gas sprayed into the car’s interior, and death threats.”
“The veterans’ community demands that the leaders of the Cherkasy region take personal control of this case and conduct daily briefings for alert teams to prevent similar incidents,” emphasized “Veterans of the Motherland.”
