Organizer of a $25,000 scheme to help people leave the country arrested in Kyiv
In the capital, a 38-year-old man has been notified that he is suspected of organizing the illegal smuggling of conscripts across Ukraine’s state border.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
Law enforcement officers caught the suspect “red-handed” while he was receiving an illegal benefit.
The investigation established that the Kyiv resident was specifically seeking out conscripts who wanted to leave Ukraine while martial law was in effect.
In exchange for a cash payment of $25,000, “clients” were offered the opportunity to obtain a fake disability certificate and receive detailed instructions on how to cross the state border using forged documents.
These instructions were intended to help the draft dodgers pass through border checkpoints unimpeded.
The organizer of the illegal channel was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code while receiving the full amount of funds from another client. The $25,000 was seized as physical evidence directly at the scene of the crime.
Law enforcement agencies are currently identifying all individuals who may have been involved in this corrupt scheme.
