The State Bureau of Investigation detained two tax officials from the Sumy region on bribery charges

Officials from the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) detained two managers from one of the departments of the Main Directorate of the State Tax Service in Sumy Oblast who had demanded a bribe from a business owner in exchange for reducing a tax penalty from 2.5 million UAH to 70,000 UAH.
The tax
officials were detained while receiving the second installment of the bribe, amounting to 50,000 UAH, after they had previously received the first installment of 30,000 UAH. Searches were conducted at the suspects’ offices, vehicles, and residences, and physical evidence was seized.
The issue of notifying the detainees of their status as suspects under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is currently being decided. The penalty under this article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
