Former Deputy Foreign Minister Bankov was released from pretrial detention on bail of 10 million hryvnias
A bail of 10 million hryvnias was posted for Oleksandr Bankov, the former State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which he was released from pretrial detention.
The High Anti-Corruption Court reported that the bail was posted on August 3—the day the preventive measure was imposed.
Bankov is suspected of involvement in an organized group that, according to investigators, embezzled international aid funds intended to support Ukraine at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), the former official persuaded international donors to transfer funds to the account of a controlled nonprofit organization, after which the money was diverted through controlled sole proprietorships and legal entities. Investigators estimate the amount of laundered funds at over 37 million hryvnias.
