The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection advised Ukrainians to stock up on food and water for 7–10 days
Ukrainians are advised to build up a moderate supply of drinking water and basic food items at home to last 7–12 days due to the risk of enemy strikes on logistics warehouses and critical infrastructure. However, they should not stockpile a month’s worth of supplies from stores.
This was announced by Anatoliy Katerenchuk, head of the State Food and Consumer Service in Kyiv.
The official emphasized that there is no need to panic-buy goods months in advance, as there is no food shortage in the country and there will not be one. Ukraine has sufficient domestic grain reserves, and any temporary shortages of certain items will be offset by imports. Systematic attacks by Russia on food facilities are aimed primarily at creating panic and chaos.
To preserve food quality, it is important to follow storage guidelines: keep grains and oil in a dark, dry, and cool place; store bulk goods in airtight containers; and store meat products at the proper temperature.

Russian strikes on warehouses and logistics centers are already forcing Ukrainian retail chains to reorganize their operations. The greatest risk currently concerns perishable goods, as well as large household appliances. At the same time, the market does not anticipate a general shortage, but shoppers may see a smaller selection of goods and higher prices due to more expensive delivery costs.
Russian strikes on large food warehouses have caused disruptions in the supply of goods to stores in Kyiv. In some of the capital’s supermarkets, shoppers have already noticed empty shelves; in particular, some types of grains, fresh herbs, and other products were temporarily out of stock.
