DESC Stated That the Pochaiv Lavra Is Linked to the Russian Orthodox Church
The State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience has completed an investigation into the possible affiliation of the Pochaiv Holy Dormition Lavra with a foreign religious organization whose activities are prohibited in Ukraine.
Based on the results of the investigation, the Service found evidence of the Lavra’s ties to the Russian Orthodox Church.
In particular, it was established that the Pochaiv Holy Dormition Lavra is a structural unit of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and is part of the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC, which, in accordance with Ukrainian law, is recognized as affiliated with a foreign religious organization, whose activities are prohibited in Ukraine.
Separately, it was determined that the Lavra’s charter and the documents governing its activities confirm its affiliation with the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC.
At the same time, the Statute of the Russian Orthodox Church provides for the inclusion of the head of the Pochaiv Holy Dormition Lavra in the statutory governing bodies of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The decision was made based on the results of an investigation that began on June 24, 2026, in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.
