The State Emergency Service uses robots to fight fires in the oil and gas sector

The Poltava Regional Office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine is actively implementing robotic systems for firefighting in extremely hazardous conditions, particularly in the oil and gas industry. According to Major General Khizhnyak, the unit is a leader in the use of such technologies for extinguishing complex fires.

Major General Andriy Khizhnyak, head of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Poltava region, spoke about this in an interview with Glavkom.

According to Major General Andriy Khizhnyak, the use of robotic systems helps protect the lives of personnel when there is a risk of secondary explosions at facilities.

“The Poltava Department is a leader in the use of robotic systems for firefighting. For example, there is a robot that can get quite close to the fire and continues to operate in the event of a secondary explosion. We once filmed a short video with a GoPro camera where a tank re-exploded during firefighting: people were thrown back by the blast, but the robot just stood there and continued to extinguish the flames,” said Andriy Khizhnyak.

Despite the rapid development of the Ukrainian market for ground-based robotic systems, equipment from abroad is currently being used for direct firefighting. Domestic equivalents have somewhat different specifications.

“Most of our robots are foreign. There are also domestic robotic systems, but they are mainly designed for demining,” explained the head of the Poltava rescue service.

Thanks to the use of foreign robotic systems, rescuers in Poltava Oblast are minimizing risks while responding to attacks on critical and oil and gas infrastructure.

Since the start of the war, 116 rescue workers have been killed — State Emergency Service.

Emergency repairs have been completed at a shopping center damaged by shelling in Kyiv — State Emergency Service.

Two people were killed and 19 others were wounded as a result of a Russian missile strike on the city of Derhachi in the Kharkiv region.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its intention to carry out “systemic strikes” on Kyiv, claiming that the targets would allegedly be facilities involved in the development, production, and use of Ukrainian drones.
