Former head of the State Food and Consumer Service in Poltava region fined for bribery

Yevhen Latukhin, the former head of the Myrhorod District Office of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Poltava Oblast, was found guilty of a corruption offense and sentenced to a fine of 68,000 hryvnias. According to the investigation, in August 2024, the official met with a local businessman and offered to prevent the official recording of violations discovered during an inspection of the store. For his “service,” he demanded 60,000 hryvnias.

According to law enforcement, the money was intended as a reward to ensure the inspector would not record the identified violations in the relevant documents. After the official was exposed, criminal proceedings were initiated, and the case was referred to court.

After reviewing the evidence, the court found the former official guilty and imposed a fine on him.

On the eve of the meeting, the district office received a report of food poisoning from one of the local stores. Based on this report, an unscheduled inspection was conducted at the store owner’s premises, during which violations were documented. At the same time, the investigation established that the person who allegedly filed the report of food poisoning does not actually exist.

According to the investigation, after the inspection, the head of the district administration began demanding a bribe of 60,000 UAH as a one-time payment and an additional 10,000 UAH monthly from the entrepreneur.

Latukhin received the money during a meeting with the business owner on the highway between Hadyach and Lokhvytsia. After the bribe was handed over, he was detained by SBI officers.

He was notified of his status as a suspect under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. On June 2, a judge of the Myrhorod Court found Yevhen Latukhin guilty of receiving an unlawful benefit and sentenced him to a fine of 68,000 UAH.
