A former judge from Mykolaiv will stand trial for ordering the murder of his stepmother to inherit her estate

The State Bureau of Investigations has concluded a special pretrial investigation into a former judge of the Mykolaiv Central District Court, whom investigators suspect of organizing the murder of his stepmother to claim her inheritance.

The SBI emphasized that it combats crimes, including those committed by members of the judiciary, regardless of how much time has passed since they were committed or whether the suspects are attempting to evade responsibility.

According to the investigation, the crime took place in July 2014. The body of the widow of the chief judge of the Zavodskyi District Court of Mykolaiv was found in the Southern Bug River.

During the investigation, law enforcement established that three former inmates and two sons of the deceased court president were involved in the crime.

One of his sons was serving as a judge on the Central District Court of Mykolaiv at the time of the murder. According to investigators, he was the one who ordered the killing, hoping to receive the inheritance.

After being notified of the charges in 2015, the former judge fled to the temporarily occupied Crimea.

According to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), he is currently in hiding from justice in the occupied territory. The special pre-trial investigation has been completed, and further procedural actions will take place in accordance with the requirements of criminal law.

This was reported by the SBI’s press service

Previously, the High Anti-Corruption Court found the former judge of the Kolomyia City and District Court in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast guilty of receiving an unlawful benefit and sentenced him to five years in prison.

In early May 2026, a conflict arose in Kyiv between the then-judge of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court and residents of an apartment building over loud Russian music. According to investigators, the man pulled out a gun, fired several shots, and endangered the people nearby. The indictment has now been submitted to the court.
