The EU has allocated more than €25 million for the modernization of kindergartens in Ukraine

The European Union will provide Ukraine with more than 25 million euros to renovate and improve the safety of preschool education facilities.

This was announced by Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi.

According to him, the funding has been approved under the Ukraine Investment Framework and will be implemented jointly with the World Bank as part of the LEARN program.

The funds will be used to build dual-purpose shelters, modernize kindergarten facilities with accessibility in mind, create safe conditions for children’s learning and development, and support communities and education sector workers.

Communities will be selected through a transparent digital system based on current needs. Priority will be given to regions that have been most affected and require restored access to preschool education.

The minister noted that the project is part of a broader reform of the sector. Previously, as part of the First Steps Forward initiative, Ukraine had already secured $30 million from the World Bank.

The program will launch in April 2026 and run for three years. The investments are also aimed at implementing the new Law “On Preschool Education” and supporting European integration reforms.

As a reminder, the International Monetary Fund, as part of a new financing program, has required Ukraine to adopt a package of tax reforms. The deadline for fulfilling these commitments is the end of March.

As a reminder, the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board approved a new four-year Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program for Ukraine worth $8.1 billion. The first tranche under the program is expected in the near future.
