The General Staff denies that military personnel have been banned from making public statements and giving interviews
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has officially denied reports of any directives issued by the Commander-in-Chief or the command prohibiting military personnel from speaking publicly or giving interviews to the media. The agency described previously published statements regarding such restrictions as untrue.
The General Staff asserts that interaction with media representatives is clearly regulated by legal acts, specifically orders from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief regarding information policy during this special period. To clarify communication procedures, additional directives and orders are periodically issued to the troops; however, none of them contain direct prohibitions on communicating with the press.
In particular, one of the command’s recent directives concerned exclusively the rules for disseminating information about changes in the operational situation in combat zones through the media and social media. Such measures are primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of Ukrainian units and maintaining overall information security, but they do not restrict the military’s right to make public statements within the established rules.
