The Cabinet of Ministers has defined the powers of First Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a list of issues falling under the purview of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. The government published the corresponding Resolution No. 984, dated July 29.
According to the document, Shmyhal will be responsible for formulating and implementing state policy in the areas of energy, energy security, the defense-industrial complex, defense procurement, industry, digital transformation, IT, the space sector, artificial intelligence, and technological development.
His responsibilities also include environmental protection, waste management, administration of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the use of nuclear energy, and the management of radioactive waste.
In addition, the First Deputy Prime Minister will be responsible for healthcare, government statistics, the development of e-services, virtual assets, and blockchain, as well as the regulation of gambling and lotteries.
Shmyhal’s responsibilities also include social protection for war veterans and their families.
The resolution also stipulates that in the absence of the Prime Minister, the First Deputy Prime Minister will assume his powers. If the First Deputy Prime Minister is also absent, the duties of the head of government will be performed by the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy—Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.
