Khmara will be responsible not only for strikes on Russia, but also for other security areas — Lytvyn

Yevhen Khmara, Ukraine’s acting Minister of Defense, will be responsible not only for issues related to strikes on Russian territory but will also carry out a broader range of security tasks.

According to Dmytro Lytvyn, an adviser to the President of Ukraine, Khmara will face the same scope of responsibilities that the former head of the Ministry of Defense had, including issues that have already been resolved and those that still need to be addressed.

“He has the same scope of responsibilities—both those that have been resolved and those that have not. And there are also security responsibilities that will be very helpful in maintaining some control,” the presidential adviser noted.

At the same time, Lytvyn did not provide any further details regarding the priorities of the new head of the Defense Ministry.

As a reminder, following the appointment of Yevhen Khmara as acting defense minister, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined his main task. According to the head of state, the key focus of his work will be oversight of long-range operations by the Ukrainian Security Forces.

Taras Kachka, the former Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, will continue his work on European affairs, representing Ukraine in the EU. At the same time, he will combine this role with that of Ukraine’s trade representative within the framework of bilateral agreements with partners.
