A Kyiv resident defrauded buyers of drones and military equipment out of 1.4 million hryvnias
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has charged a 53-year-old resident of the capital with organizing a large-scale scheme to defraud buyers of military equipment.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The suspect embezzled over 1.4 million hryvnias by offering scarce equipment and ammunition for the Ukrainian army online.
The suspect began his activities back in 2022 by creating a specialized website and social media pages.
He offered potential customers tactical footwear, clothing, and popular FPV drones, which were supposed to be delivered to the military on the front lines.
To receive payments, the man used an account registered to an individual entrepreneur, which gave the scheme the appearance of a legitimate business.
Buyers either made a partial prepayment or paid for the order in full, but after receiving the money, the seller would stop responding.
To avoid early detection and complaints to law enforcement, the suspect resorted to manipulating the most persistent customers.
In isolated cases, he partially refunded the funds, attempting to create the illusion of good-faith fulfillment of obligations and temporary technical difficulties.
The investigation has currently confirmed that nine citizens were defrauded, two of whom are active-duty servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The total amount of damages exceeds 1.4 million hryvnias, which is classified as fraud on an especially large scale.
