The accused has been charged under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that provide for severe punishment for crimes related to sexual abuse of minors and the production of child pornography. He is currently in custody, and the trial could have serious consequences if his guilt is confirmed.
The need for punishment for such crimes is particularly important in light of recent data showing an increase in cases of sexual violence against children in Ukraine. The prosecutor's office actively advocates for the introduction of mandatory life imprisonment for persons who commit serious crimes against children in order to prevent similar cases in the future.
