Nvidia CEO's jacket sold for nearly a million dollars
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's signature leather jacket was sold at a Sotheby's auction in New York for $960,000. The final price was nearly 20 times the auction house’s initial estimate.
The jacket has long been part of Huang’s recognizable look. He wore it while speaking at a Foxconn event in Taipei in 2023, and personally signed it before the sale.
Jensen Huang has remained true to his style for nearly twenty years. At new product launches, conferences, and other public events, he almost always appears in a black leather jacket by designer Tom Ford. This particular piece of clothing has become one of the symbols of the Nvidia CEO and is easily recognizable among the company’s fans.
One such jacket was put up for auction at Sotheby’s in New York. During the auction, the lot generated considerable interest among collectors. The auction lasted 65 rounds, with 45 bidders competing for the right to purchase the jacket. As a result, the final price reached $960,000.
By comparison, Sotheby’s experts had initially estimated the jacket’s value at only $40,000–$60,000. Thus, the final price turned out to be nearly twenty times higher than the upper limit of the estimate. Sotheby’s reported that Jensen Huang wore this jacket during a Foxconn event in Taipei in 2023. He also personally signed it before the auction, which significantly increased buyer interest.

Huang himself has long been associated with black leather jackets. Just like Steve Jobs’ black turtleneck or Mark Zuckerberg’s gray T-shirts, this piece of clothing has become part of his personal brand. The auction organizers noted that proceeds from the sale of the lot will go to charity. Specifically, they will be used to fund scholarships and grant programs.
The sale of the jacket is yet another example of how highly collectors value items associated with prominent figures in the tech industry. Previously, personal items belonging to other executives of global IT companies have also sold for large sums at auctions, according to CNBC.
