A driver was killed near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in a strike by a Russian drone, according to the IAEA

An incident involving a drone occurred this morning near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in the death of a driver. The drone struck a maintenance workshop located near the plant’s industrial site.

This was reported by the IAEA on social media platform X.

The agency noted that its team, which is permanently stationed on site, plans to investigate the circumstances of the incident and continues to monitor the situation at the plant.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasized that attacks near or on the territory of nuclear facilities pose a serious threat to nuclear safety.

“Strikes on or near nuclear power plants can threaten nuclear safety and must not occur,” Grossi stated.

As a reminder, Ukraine and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed a memorandum of understanding that provides for enhanced technical support and expanded cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

During a meeting with the IAEA Director General, Ukraine will raise the issue of regaining control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and strengthening international diplomatic efforts to ensure its safety.
