A major with the Dnipro City Police Department was notified of being named a suspect in connection with a $1,500 bribe

A major—a senior officer in the mobilization department of one of Dnipro’s district military registration and enlistment offices and joint staff—was notified that he is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit in exchange for influencing the transfer of a service member to a rear military unit.

What is known

According to reports, the major received an illegal benefit for himself by influencing the decision of military unit officials to transfer a servicemember to a rear military unit for further military service.
 

Specifically, in early July 2026, while in the administrative building of one of the Regional Territorial Recruitment Centers and Joint Staffs in Dnipro, the major assured the servicemember that he could influence the unit’s leadership to have him transferred to a rear unit and demanded $1,500 to resolve this matter. 

In September 2026, the servicemember arrived at the agreed-upon address, where he handed over the agreed-upon $1,500 to the major. After receiving the funds, he was detained by law enforcement officers in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. 

Charges and Pretrial Detention

It is reported that the suspect’s actions have been classified under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — receiving an unlawful benefit for oneself by influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with the solicitation of such a benefit. 

At the prosecutor’s request, the suspect was ordered to be held in custody, with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 266,240 UAH.
