High school students will be able to complete their studies at their current schools after their status changes

Students in grades 10 and 11 will be able to complete their general secondary education at the schools where they began their studies, even if the school’s status changes from a lyceum to a gymnasium. This provision is included in the revised draft law No. 15082-d, which was developed by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science, and Innovation.

The new document was prepared by technical teams from the relevant parliamentary committee and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine based on two previously rejected initiatives. According to committee chair Serhiy Babak, the final version of the text has already been reviewed and approved by the relevant subcommittee.

The bill aims to ensure that students enrolled in a two-year high school program retain the right to receive their diploma from their own school. The document is currently being prepared for consideration in the Verkhovna Rada’s plenary hall, where the committee will recommend adopting it in principle and as a whole.

The Ministry of Education and Science has allowed educational institutions to shorten the duration of classes from 45 to 40 or 35 minutes, if necessary. This was announced by Minister of Education and Science Andriy Butenko.

On September 1, schools across Ukraine held the All-Ukrainian lesson “The Language of Dignity: Seeing the Person Behind the Words,” dedicated to respect, diversity, and barrier-free communication. The Ministry of Education and Science has prepared materials for students in grades 1–12, which teachers can adapt according to the age and needs of their specific class.

Earlier, the schedule of school breaks in Kyiv for the 2026–2027 school year was released.
