A resident of Lyman was sentenced to 15 years for passing the coordinates of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the Russians
A 36-year-old resident of Lyman was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for treason.
After the city was liberated in 2022, the man maintained contact with an acquaintance who had defected to the Russian Federation during the occupation and later became a deputy of the so-called “Krasnolymansk Municipal Council” representing the “United Russia” party.
In March 2026, while taking shelter from Russian shelling in the basement of a high-rise building, the defendant began gathering information on the locations of Ukrainian military forces. He obtained this information from other residents who were with him in the shelter.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the man personally transmitted the coordinates of Ukrainian Armed Forces positions to the enemy, sent screenshots of digital maps with corresponding markings, and, at the request of the Russian side, confirmed the results of the strikes.
In exchange for his cooperation, he was promised a “warm welcome” in the event of a renewed occupation of Lyman.
In May 2026, law enforcement officers detained the man. He remained in custody until the verdict became final.
The court found him guilty of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
