The Lithuanian Minister of Defense will discuss measures to prevent incidents involving Ukrainian UAVs in Kyiv

During his visit to Kyiv on March 25, 2026, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas announced talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov regarding violations of the Baltic states’ airspace by Ukrainian drones.

This was reported by LRT.

The Lithuanian official emphasized that such incidents are to be expected given the largest war since World War II near NATO’s borders. The parties plan to develop mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future and minimize their consequences.

Kaunas emphasized that Ukraine is not to blame for Russia’s initiation of the war, but called for strengthening the Alliance’s eastern flank and attracting EU investments for border monitoring. The minister noted that the security situation could have been better had Lithuania’s defense spending been higher in previous years. Vilnius is currently working to strengthen its own defense capabilities and coordinate actions with partners to stabilize the situation in the region.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed that the drone that flew in from Russian territory and crashed in Latvia belonged to Ukraine.

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds decided to immediately cut short his visit to Ukraine and return home.
