A Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church Has Been Charged in Absentia with Aiding Militants

The Security Service of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies have exposed the head of one of the Russian Orthodox Church’s religious organizations, who actively helped finance and supply Russian occupation forces with material and technical resources.

A citizen of the Russian Federation, taking advantage of his high ecclesiastical status, was directly involved in supplying militants fighting against the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to journalistic investigations, the individual in question is the head of the Vyatka Metropolis, Metropolitan Mark (born Alexei Tuzhikov), although there has been no official confirmation of this name from law enforcement agencies yet.

Investigators have documented several specific instances of criminal activity by this high-ranking clergyman in support of the invading army.

In particular, in March 2023, while in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast, the Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church personally handed over a power generator and a chainsaw to Russian servicemen from the notorious “Pyatnashka” unit to help them fortify their positions.

Subsequently, the religious figure only expanded the scale of his unlawful activities to support the war of aggression against the Ukrainian state.

In November 2023, the perpetrator organized a fundraiser, the repair, and subsequent delivery to the front lines of two “UAZ” military off-road vehicles.

These vehicles were handed over to the occupiers from the Kirov Region of the Russian Federation for direct use in combat operations against Ukraine.

Based on the irrefutable evidence gathered, the metropolitan was notified in absentia of his status as a suspect under an article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that provides for liability for financing actions committed with the aim of forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power, or altering the territory or state borders of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
