Young people are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to find news

Ukrainian youth are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence services to stay informed about the news and understand world events. The Ministry of Culture warns that this approach could be dangerous due to the risk of misinformation. Experts emphasize the need to develop media literacy as a fundamental skill.

Ukrainian youth are increasingly using artificial intelligence tools as a source of news, replacing traditional media or search engines with them. Natalia Movshovych, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Culture, reported this during the International Conference on Media Literacy, citing research findings.

According to her, more and more users are turning to services such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to quickly get explanations of events or find out what is happening in the world. At the same time, she emphasized that such information is not always accurate or verified and therefore requires critical thinking and additional verification on the part of the user. “Our research showed that young people often use artificial intelligence specifically to search for news. And it was a very interesting finding that tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are used simply to ask what’s happening in the world and how,” Movshovich noted.

She also emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence simultaneously increases information risks, as the line between reliable and false information can become blurred. That is why, she said, media literacy must become a core competency from childhood and accompany a person throughout their entire life.

“Media literacy is a dynamic process. It must develop from early childhood and accompany a person constantly. It is a cross-cutting skill,” added the deputy minister, emphasizing that a society’s level of information literacy directly influences its development and resilience. Natalia Movshovych, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Culture, made these remarks during the International Conference on Media Literacy.

The Ministry of Defense has clarified the procedure for calculating a new rear-area supplementary allowance of 10,000 hryvnias per month. This payment will serve as a minimum guaranteed allowance for members of the Defense Forces who are actively serving but are not carrying out combat missions on the front lines.
