The Ministry of Health has expanded the "Affordable Medicines" program, adding 37 new drugs

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has updated the list of medicines and medical devices eligible for reimbursement under the “Affordable Medicines” program. This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.

Thirty-seven drugs in various dosages have been added to the program. For the first time, “Affordable Medicines” includes drugs with two active ingredients—amoxicillin and ofloxacin. In other cases, the list has been expanded with new brand names of drugs already included in the program.

This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.

Among the new drugs on the list:

  • Cardiovascular diseases: Telpres Plus (telmisartan + hydrochlorothiazide), Indap (indapamide), Tiurex (hydrochlorothiazide), Veroshpiron (spironolactone), Toradiv (torasemide), Acecor Cardio (acetylsalicylic acid).
  • Infectious diseases in children: Ospamox (amoxicillin), Tricaside (metronidazole), Uniflox (ofloxacin), Cipronex (ciprofloxacin).
  • Mental and behavioral disorders: Escitalopram Teva, Asitalox (escitalopram), Quetiron (quetiapine).
  • Other diseases and conditions: Levenium (levetiracetam) for epilepsy, Levocom Retard Asino (levodopa + carbidopa) for Parkinson’s disease, Metafora-SR and Metformin for diabetes, Ventolin Evohaler (salbutamol) for respiratory conditions.
  • Specialty medications: Prolatan, Unilat, Xaloptic Eco (latanoprost) for glaucoma, Migrenet (sumatriptan) for migraines, Folic Acid Astra for prevention during pregnancy, Aralet (letrozole) and Exemarin (exemestane) for the treatment of breast cancer.

Currently, the “Affordable Medicines” program includes 748 items: 621 medications, 59 insulin preparations, 32 combination drugs, and 36 medical devices, including test strips for glucose meters. Patients can obtain medications free of charge or with a partial copayment using an electronic prescription.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine approved an updated list of medicines and medical devices eligible for reimbursement through state funds.

Previously, the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the sale of over-the-counter medications at gas stations. Gas station employees will be able to dispense medications under a license, and the premises must have a separate area designated for storing medications. The decision aims to make medications more accessible, particularly in rural areas and frontline regions.

The Ministry of Health and the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection have been tasked with monitoring prices for certain medications to prevent price hikes.
