The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the resolution adopted by the Polish Sejm marking the anniversary of the Volhynia tragedy. The ministry stated that it looks forward to a constructive dialogue with the Polish side and to continuing joint efforts to establish the historical truth.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the truth about past events must be established exclusively on the basis of a scientific approach. Ukraine also advocates for the continuation of joint search and exhumation efforts on the territory of both countries.
The ministry recalled that on July 11, the Ukrainian side commemorated all victims of the Volhynia Tragedy at the highest level. Ukrainian and Polish high-ranking officials participated in the events, jointly honoring the memory of the deceased Ukrainians and Poles.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Ukraine highly values Poland as one of its closest allies in countering Russian aggression. The ministry noted that historical disputes should not divide nations that today share common values, a common enemy, and a European future.
Ukraine also declared its intention to continue adhering to a balanced approach to issues of historical memory and called on Poland to engage in mutual respect and an equal dialogue.
