A 2.5 million hryvnia fraud scheme was uncovered in Bukovyna during the construction of a bridge — BEB

In Bukovyna, law enforcement officials uncovered an alleged scheme of fraud during the construction of a bridge, which resulted in losses to the state of over 2.5 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the Economic Security Bureau.

According to the investigation, during the construction of a bridge in the village of Marshynci, for which over 171 million hryvnias were allocated, the contractor used metal formwork manufactured with public funds.

Since this equipment is reusable, it was supposed to be returned to the client or its cost reimbursed. However, the structures were classified as scrap metal, and the state was not reimbursed for the cost of the property.

The BEB stated that officials of the state institution, specifically the deputy head and the head of the relevant department, signed the certificates of completion despite the identified violations. According to the investigation, this allowed the contractor to receive full payment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

On May 11, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau officially confirmed that it had served a notice of suspicion on Andriy Yermak, the former head of the Office of the President. He is charged under Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—legalization (laundering) of property obtained by criminal means by an organized group or in particularly large amounts (8 to 12 years with confiscation).

Prior to this, footage appeared online showing NABU agents intercepting Yermak near the Kyiv Sports Palace and presumably serving him with a notice of suspicion.

Earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine commented on reports of a possible indictment against former Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, emphasizing that such procedural decisions are not announced in advance and are based solely on the evidence gathered. The agency stressed that any indictment can be served only after proper justification by the investigation. At the same time, they noted that all investigative actions are conducted within the law and under court supervision.
