A man was arrested in the Cherkasy region for setting fire to a school building
In the city of Zolotonosha, Cherkasy Oblast, law enforcement officers detained a 30-year-old local resident suspected of intentionally setting fire to a school building.
The police received a report of the fire on May 30. The fire broke out in a building where sports equipment was stored.
During an inspection of the scene, law enforcement officers identified signs of arson and began searching for the person involved. CCTV footage helped identify the suspect.
Forensic analysts identified the man, after which operatives and investigators tracked his route and determined his whereabouts.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, physical evidence was seized which, according to the investigation, confirms his involvement in the crime.
The man was notified of the charges against him under the article on the intentional destruction or damage of property by arson. The court ordered him to be held in custody as a preventive measure.
If found guilty, the suspect faces three to ten years in prison.
