A teenager was killed on the railroad tracks in Rivne Oblast
In the Rivne region, a 17-year-old boy was killed by a passenger train while crossing the tracks at an unauthorized location. The tragedy occurred in the morning at the Klevan–Petruska station, despite the train engineer’s attempts to stop the train.
A fatal railway accident occurred in the village of Novostav, Rivne District, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old teenager. The Warsaw–Kyiv international train struck the boy, who was on the tracks as the train was passing. According to police, the tragedy occurred around 7:30 a.m. on the Klevan–Petruska railway section.
Law enforcement officials determined that the teenager was walking along the tracks and then suddenly began to cross them at an unauthorized location without ensuring it was safe to do so. At that moment, a train was approaching, and the engineer was forced to apply emergency brakes, but was unable to avoid the collision.
The boy was wearing headphones, which likely affected his ability to hear the approaching train. He died at the scene from his injuries before medical personnel arrived. “Despite applying the emergency brakes, the collision could not be avoided,” the police reported, commenting on the circumstances of the tragedy.
Investigators have already opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 276 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules or railway transport operation regulations, resulting in the death of a person. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of two to seven years.
Law enforcement officials are urging citizens to be as careful as possible near railroad tracks and to cross them only at designated crossings, as even a few seconds of inattention can have irreversible consequences. This was reported by the regional police press service.
