In the Kharkiv region, a married couple was driving to Prudyanka to retrieve belongings they had left behind during the evacuation. On the way, their car hit an explosive device, injuring the 51-year-old man and the 53-year-old woman. The man was hospitalized in Kharkiv.
On Tuesday around 11:00 a.m., the car carrying the couple struck an explosive device on the road between Slatyn and Prudyanka in the Derhachi community of the Kharkiv region. The 51-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were traveling toward Prudyanka. They wanted to retrieve some of their belongings that had been left there after the evacuation.
On a section of the road, the car struck an explosive device. “On the stretch of road between Slatyn and Prudyanka, they struck one of the explosive devices that the Russians are using to remotely mine the community’s territory,” Zadorenko wrote.
What injuries did the couple sustain?
As a result of the explosion, both passengers sustained multiple injuries. The man was diagnosed with an open fracture of his right leg. The woman suffered abrasions on her body and a traumatic brain injury. After the explosion, the victims were transported to the Derhachi Central Hospital. According to Zadorenko, this was done by a local resident of Slatyn, who used his own car.
At the hospital, the couple received the necessary medical care. Their condition is currently considered stable. After receiving first aid, the man was hospitalized at one of the hospitals in Kharkiv. There, he will continue treatment for his injuries.

According to the head of the city’s military administration, the couple was heading to Prudyanka specifically to retrieve personal belongings they had left behind after the evacuation. Due to ongoing hostilities and landmines, the community’s territory remains dangerous for civilians.
Zadorenko emphasized that Russian troops are remotely laying mines in the community’s territory. As a result, dangers may still exist even on roads and areas previously used regularly by local residents.
The community urges residents not to take risks
Explosions in mined areas pose a danger even after active hostilities have ended. Explosive devices may remain on roads, roadsides, in fields, and other locations. In the case of the married couple, their car was blown up while they were traveling to a settlement from which people had previously been evacuated.
Local residents and authorities regularly remind people not to enter potentially mined areas and not to use dangerous routes without proper authorization. According to Zadorenko, this time, thanks to the help of a local resident, the victims were quickly transported to the hospital. Currently, both injured individuals are under medical supervision. The man will continue his treatment in Kharkiv, while the woman’s condition remains stable following medical care.
