In the Kharkiv region, police discovered the remains of a woman in her son-in-law's car
In the Kharkiv region, law enforcement officers discovered a bag containing human remains during a vehicle inspection.
As the investigation revealed, the deceased was the driver’s mother-in-law, whom he had killed and hidden for a long time.
The tragedy occurred back in November 2024 in one of the region’s towns. A heated conflict arose between the 46-year-old man and his wife’s mother due to a long-standing hostile relationship and disputes over an inheritance.
During the altercation, the son-in-law struck the woman numerous times in the head with his fists, causing her to fall. The perpetrator did not stop and continued the beating, after which he finally killed the victim by strangling her.
To conceal the evidence of the crime, the man placed his relative’s body in a large bag and carried it to a utility shed. He kept the victim’s body in the shed on his own property for nearly a year and a half.
An acquaintance of the victim, who had not seen the woman for a long time, raised the alarm and filed a missing person report with the police. In April 2026, law enforcement officers planned to conduct a detailed search of the suspect’s property.
Upon learning of the police visit, the man panicked and decided to quickly dispose of the physical evidence. He asked an acquaintance who helped the family with household chores to remove a package from the shed.
“The acquaintance did not know the contents of the package and viewed this as ordinary help with household chores,” notes the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.
The assistant helped load the package into a minivan to take it outside the town.
On the way, the vehicle was stopped by patrol officers for a routine document check and inspection.
It was during the inspection of the vehicle’s cargo compartment that law enforcement officers discovered the remains of the deceased woman.
