In the Khmelnytskyi region, a community leader was sentenced to 7 years for embezzling funds intended for schools
A court in the Khmelnytskyi region sentenced a community leader to seven years in prison after finding him guilty of embezzling nearly 1.9 million hryvnias during school procurement. Part of the funds was supposed to go toward equipment, specifically laser tag for the “Defense of Ukraine” course and multimedia kits for the New Ukrainian School (NUS) program.
According to the documents, the equipment had allegedly already been delivered and transferred to storage. In reality, at the time the budget funds were transferred, there was no equipment at the school.
To conceal this, the community head issued knowingly false official documents. The equipment was delivered to the school only in February 2025, after the pretrial investigation had already begun.
Prosecutors from the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that he was guilty of embezzlement of budget funds and official forgery.
The sentence is 7 years of imprisonment, a 3-year ban on holding relevant positions, and confiscation of property.
Until the verdict becomes final, the person is presumed innocent in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
As a reminder, an official at the municipal enterprise Informatika has been notified of suspicion of fraud in the procurement of cameras.
Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure in the form of a 3 million hryvnia bail on Supreme Court Judge Zhanna Yelenina. She is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit of $50,000 for issuing a court ruling in favor of Konstantin Zhevago, the owner of the “Finance and Credit” group, Konstantin Zhevago regarding shares in the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant.
Former Supreme Court Chairman Vsevolod Knyazev, several years after his high-profile arrest, admitted that he had received an illegal benefit from businessman Konstantin Zhevago and testified against a number of judges, which dramatically changed the course of one of the most high-profile anti-corruption cases in Ukraine in recent years.
