The High Anti-Corruption Court handed down a verdict in the case involving $250,000 for influencing National Security and Defense Council sanctions
On July 1, the High Anti-Corruption Court approved a plea agreement in a case involving the solicitation of a $250,000 bribe to influence a National Security and Defense Council decision on sanctions against a competitor. The investigation established that the scheme was organized with the participation of a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, who acted as the “guarantor” of the agreements.
The defendant fully admitted his guilt in the crime with which he was charged and agreed to provide incriminating testimony against other accomplices.
The court found the defendant guilty of committing the crime provided for in Part 4 of Article 27 and Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, the execution of which was suspended on probation with the establishment of a probationary period and the imposition of obligations determined by the court.
In addition, the defendant is required to transfer 700,000 UAH to the “United 24” fund in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It should be noted that the crime was uncovered by NABU detectives in cooperation with the Main Directorate for Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), under the procedural supervision of a prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). The pretrial investigation in the case has now been completed. The defense is currently reviewing the case materials.
According to Part 1 of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court conviction, the SAP reports.
