In June 2026, 144 people, including 35 children, died in Ukraine’s bodies of water. Rescue workers released these figures, highlighting a sharp increase in the number of tragic incidents compared to last year.
By comparison, in June 2025, 90 people lost their lives in the water, 10 of whom were children.
The State Emergency Service emphasizes that behind every number lies a human tragedy and the grief of loved ones, and that most of these incidents could have been prevented if people had followed basic safety rules.
Rescuers are once again urging Ukrainians not to neglect safety precautions while spending time near bodies of water:
- relax only in designated areas;
- do not leave children unattended near the water, even for a minute;
- do not enter the water while under the influence of alcohol;
- do not overestimate your abilities while swimming.
The State Emergency Service emphasizes that following these simple rules can save lives.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The number of tragic incidents during water recreation has risen sharply in Ukraine, prompting rescue workers to issue an urgent appeal to the public.
In the Lviv region, two fatal water-related tragedies occurred within a single day.
In Kyiv, the search has concluded for a man who drowned in Lake Redkyne.
