A lawyer was arrested in Lviv Oblast for demanding $9,000 to have a case involving a special forces unit dismissed
Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, law enforcement officials have notified a Uzhhorod lawyer of their suspicion that he organized a scheme to illegally profit at the expense of Ukrainian military personnel.
According to the investigation, the lawyer demanded and received an illegal benefit of $9,000 from a soldier.
In exchange for this sum, the suspect promised to close the criminal case regarding the soldier’s unauthorized absence from his unit (UAU), remove the client from the wanted list, and ensure his demobilization.
The perpetrator assured the soldier that he had corrupt connections and could directly influence officials from law enforcement agencies, the military unit, and the Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
In addition to promising to release the man from service, the lawyer guaranteed that the relevant fictitious data would be entered into the “Oberig” system.
The transfer of money took place in two stages, during which the lawyer attempted to demonstrate the alleged successful fulfillment of his obligations.
First, the lawyer received $4,000 and showed the client documents purporting to suspend the proceedings. Later, he demanded another $5,000 for the “final resolution” of the discharge issue.
Immediately after receiving the second installment, the suspect was caught red-handed in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
A man was detained in Kyiv for attempting to rape a woman
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented another terrorist attack in Kharkiv by detaining a married couple of Russian agents who were preparing an explosion in the city center.
As a reminder, the SBU detained a Russian strike coordinator in Chernivtsi.
The SBU also exposed a Russian spy network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
