A driver who caused a fatal traffic accident and is suspected of killing his mother has been detained in the Lviv region
Law enforcement officers detained a 24-year-old resident of Lviv who caused a fatal traffic accident in the town of Pustomyty while attempting to flee from patrol officers and confessed to the brutal murder of his own mother.
Investigators from the Lviv Regional Police have already opened criminal cases regarding these incidents for intentional homicide and violation of traffic safety regulations.
The suspect has been formally detained, and urgent investigative measures are underway at the scenes of both crimes.
The horrific incident began when a patrol police crew spotted a suspicious vehicle on one of the streets in Pustomyty that was driving in violation of traffic laws.
The driver ignored lawful orders to stop and attempted to evade pursuit, which led to tragic consequences on the road.
“Patrol officers spotted an Audi Q5 without a front license plate, which began driving at high speed, collided with a police vehicle, and subsequently lost control, resulting in a head-on collision with a Volkswagen,” the Telegram post states.
The force of the impact during the head-on collision was so severe that the driver of the other vehicle had no chance of survival.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen, a resident of the Lviv region, died at the scene from his injuries. Paramedics, who arrived promptly at the scene, could only confirm the victim’s death.
Immediately after the accident, patrol officers blocked off the scene and detained the person responsible for the accident. During his initial interaction with law enforcement, the young man was in a disoriented state and made a shocking confession about another crime he had committed.
The driver of the Audi turned out to be a 24-year-old resident of Lviv, who also reported that he had killed his mother.
To verify his claims, an investigative team was immediately dispatched to the address he provided in Lviv. The woman’s death was confirmed; she was found in her apartment with stab wounds.
The victim’s body was sent for a forensic medical examination to determine the exact time and cause of death.
The suspect is currently in custody, and law enforcement officials are investigating the motives behind his aggressive behavior.
The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code and sent for a medical examination to test for the presence of alcohol or narcotics in his system.
