A man in the Odesa region was sentenced to 15 years in prison for treason

Prosecutors from the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office secured a conviction for a 68-year-old Odesa resident who was found guilty of treason.

According to the investigation, the man passed information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the enemy. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with the confiscation of all his property.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

In court, prosecutors proved that the man, guided by pro-Russian beliefs, collected and passed on information to representatives of the aggressor state regarding the locations of checkpoints and units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in Odesa and the region.

The investigation established that he agreed to cooperate with the Russian special services, expressed his willingness to carry out their tasks, and even requested an appointment to a position in the so-called “occupation administration” in the event of the region’s capture.

In October–November 2022, while traveling by car, the defendant covertly photographed and videotaped checkpoints and the locations of Ukrainian military units. To maintain secrecy, he used a dashcam and removable storage devices.

He transmitted the obtained materials twice through an intermediary, hiding the storage devices in packs of cigarettes.

As a reminder, the prosecutor’s office responded to allegations of “pressure” on local authorities.

The prosecutor’s office is also asking the High Anti-Corruption Court to set Yulia Tymoshenko’s bail at ₴50 million and require her to wear an electronic ankle monitor.
