A human trafficking ring smuggling men to the border with Moldova was uncovered in the Odesa region
In the Odesa region, border guards, in cooperation with the National Police, apprehended two Odesa residents who had organized a scheme to illegally smuggle men across Ukraine’s state border.
The perpetrators sought out people willing to leave the country through a specially created Telegram channel, according to the State Border Guard Service.
According to law enforcement, the suspects transported “clients” to border areas, from where they attempted to illegally enter Moldova.
Currently, all circumstances surrounding the channel’s activities and possible accomplices in the scheme are being investigated.
The cost of the “services” was $5,000. The payment scheme involved two stages: first, the client had to transfer $1,500 as a deposit to a crypto wallet, and the remaining amount was to be handed over in person before departure.
Following the dealers’ instructions, the latest client arrived in Odesa, from where he was to be transported to the border with Moldova for an illegal crossing. However, law enforcement officials thwarted the plan: the accomplices were caught red-handed while receiving the second installment of $3,500.
Results of the searches and arrests: During the investigation, the following items were seized from the suspects:
a vehicle used for transportation;
cell phones and rough notes;
cash and medical documents.
Currently, both Odessa residents are in custody. They have already been notified of the charges against them.
