In the Carpathian region, a drunk driver left two children in a truck, which then plunged into a ravine
In the village of Krasnik, Verkhovyna District, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, a 32-year-old local resident, while intoxicated, left a KamAZ truck on a hillside with two six-year-old boys in the cab. Without ensuring that the parking brake was properly engaged, the man left the vehicle, after which the truck rolled down the slope on its own and overturned several times, leaving the children with severe injuries.
The victims, in critical condition, were hospitalized at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, where they were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries. One of the boys underwent immediate surgery; both brothers are currently on ventilators, though doctors have already managed to stabilize their condition. The results of the driver’s test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.91 per mille.
Law enforcement officers detained the driver and charged him with violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated, resulting in serious bodily injury. For this offense, the man faces a prison sentence of three to eight years, along with a driving ban for the same period.
