A scheme to steal gas from the state gas transmission system worth over 200 million hryvnias was uncovered in the Carpathian region
Law enforcement officials have uncovered a large-scale scheme in the Carpathian region involving the illegal diversion of natural gas from the state gas transmission system, resulting in losses exceeding 200 million hryvnias.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police.
According to the investigation, the scheme was organized by the head of a private gas production company, who involved three subordinates in it.
Investigators established that from January 2022 to October 2025, the scheme’s participants systematically interfered with the operation of a gas metering station controlled by “Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine.”
According to the investigation, using a special key, they shut off a valve on the metering line, causing the system to record distorted data on actual gas volumes.
Thus, according to the investigation, over 8 million cubic meters of gas were illegally siphoned off and subsequently sold as their own resource.
The amount of damage caused to the state is estimated at over 203 million hryvnias.
The organizer of the scheme and his three accomplices have been detained. They have been notified of their status as suspects in the crimes of large-scale fraud and the laundering of proceeds from criminal activity.
The prosecutor’s office is preparing a motion to arrest the suspects and will insist on bail in the amount of the damages caused.
Russia also launched a ballistic missile strike on Naftogaz Group facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in damage.
A supervisory board for Gazmerzhi-Naftogaz has been formed.
