In the Rivne region, law enforcement officers uncovered a group involved in the illegal trade of amber. During searches of the suspects’ premises, more than 656 kg of raw amber was seized, with a black-market value exceeding 1 million UAH.
According to the investigation, the illegal operation was organized by a 31-year-old resident of the Sarny District, who recruited five accomplices. They purchased amber from miners, sorted it, and prepared it for sale, particularly to foreign buyers.
According to preliminary estimates, the participants in the scheme earned about $40,000 in profit each month.
During recent searches, law enforcement officers also seized electronic scales, cell phones, a car, and rough notes. The investigation is ongoing.
Previously, police detained an organized group that used forged documents to register state-owned land plots in the names of fictitious individuals for subsequent sale, causing significant losses to the state.
Law enforcement officials havenotified the former and current directors, as well as the head of a department at one of the railcar manufacturing enterprises, that they are under suspicion. According to the investigation, they are involved in supplying substandard rolling stock to Ukrzaliznytsia, causing losses of over 64 million hryvnias.
