A scheme involving fictitious combat assignments worth 3.4 million hryvnias was uncovered in the Sumy region
Law enforcement officials have notified three officials from a military unit in the Sumy region that they are under suspicion of illegally awarding more than 3.4 million hryvnias in additional payments for alleged participation in combat operations.
According to the investigation, those involved in the scheme include the chief of staff—the deputy commander of the military unit—the head of the staff planning group, and the staff sergeant of the planning group.
Investigators determined that from August 2024 to January 2025, the officials entered false information into official documents regarding their own and each other’s participation in combat operations.
Based on these documents, they were paid additional allowances ranging from 70,000 to 100,000 hryvnias.
According to law enforcement estimates, the losses to the state budget exceeded 3.4 million hryvnias.
The three suspects have been notified that they are suspected of abuse of office. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
