In Volyn, lightning struck 7 people near a body of water

On Monday, June 29, severe weather—including thunderstorms and squalls—raged across several districts of the Volyn Oblast. Due to the harsh weather conditions, property damage was reported, as well as a serious accident near a body of water in which people were injured.

The most serious incident occurred in the village of Ozero in the Kivertsi district. A direct lightning strike was recorded near a local body of water. As a result of the powerful electrical discharge, seven people lost consciousness simultaneously. Four minors were among the victims.

Emergency services—including local police crews and ambulance teams—rushed to the scene. All of the victims were hospitalized, while law enforcement officers helped transport people to the ambulances, documented the aftermath of the incident, and interviewed witnesses.

In addition, the destructive effects of the storm were reported in the Lutsk and Kovel districts. There, strong gusts of wind and falling trees caused damage to residential and farm buildings, as well as private vehicles. Police units continue to work at the sites of the damage to assist citizens.

This was reported by the official website of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Volyn Oblast.

On June 21, a 46-year-old resident of Chernivtsi was injured while hiking a popular tourist route through the Chornohora Range. The woman was struck by lightning while the group was near one of the range’s peaks.

A complex rescue operation on Mont Blanc was successfully completed, during which two Polish climbers who had been caught in a storm and struck by lightning were rescued.
