In Transcarpathia, preparations are underway for the opening of two new border checkpoints on the border with Romania

In Transcarpathia, plans are underway to open two additional border crossing points on the border with Romania. One of them is planned to be a rail crossing.

According to him, Transcarpathia shares approximately 205 km of border with Romania, so the development of border infrastructure in this area is one of the region’s key infrastructure priorities.

“As part of the thematic clusters’ work, I presented the Transcarpathian case in detail (the development of border infrastructure on the Romanian section of Transcarpathia’s border with the EU—ed.). Transcarpathia shares a border of about 205 km with Romania, and for us, its development is one of the key infrastructure priorities,” noted Myroslav Biletsky.

According to Biletsky, the first result of this work will be the “Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmației” border crossing point in the Tyachiv district. It is scheduled to begin operations in the coming days.

At the same time, preparations are underway for the opening of two more border crossing points.

These include the “Khyzha–Tarna Mare” checkpoint in Berehove District, where plans are in place to resume operations at the international crossing that previously operated there.

The second project is “Yablunivka–Remety (Huta)” in Khust District. According to the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, it has already moved into the practical implementation phase.

“In addition, work is underway to open additional border crossing points: ‘Khyzha–Tarna Mare’ in Berehove District, which involves restoring an international border crossing that previously existed, and ‘Yablunivka–Remety (Huta)’ in the Khust district. This project has moved into the implementation phase: with the support of the Interreg NEXT program, Ukraine and Romania are already designing the future border crossing point and access roads,” said Biletsky.

Separately, Myroslav Biletsky drew attention to the development of rail logistics.

Currently, only one railway crossing—"Dyakove–Halmeu"—is operational on the Transcarpathian section of the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

“Currently, only one railway crossing—‘Dyakove–Halmeu’—is operational on the Transcarpathian section of the border. The development of new rail connections will increase the resilience of logistics, create new transportation hubs, and expand routes for Ukrainian exports to the EU,” Biletsky added.

According to him, the expansion of logistics corridors should strengthen Transcarpathia’s transportation capabilities and promote the growth of Ukrainian exports to the European Union.

Work on expanding the logistics corridors in Constanța was carried out with the participation of Mykola Kalashnyk, Ukraine’s Minister of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport; Ivan Fedorov, Head of the Agency for Infrastructure Recovery and Development; Ruslan Osypenko, Head of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration, and Ionel Scriostanu, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport.

Representatives of the railways, ports, customs, and border services also joined the discussion.

Thus, efforts are underway in Zakarpattia to simultaneously expand road and rail border crossing points with Romania, which should contribute to the development of border infrastructure and the strengthening of Ukraine’s transport links with the EU.

This was reported by Myroslav Biletsky, head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, on Facebook.

As a reminder, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed a strike on the “Yagodin” international border crossing in Volyn Oblast, located approximately 5 km from the border with Poland. The Russian side also stated that a train, which was allegedly used to transport military cargo, was hit during the attack.
