Israeli minister narrowly escaped a Russian strike on the Ukrainian border

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Israel’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Ze’ev Elkin, who narrowly escaped being struck by a Russian drone on the border with Moldova. The Israeli official arrived in Ukraine as part of a delegation marking the anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy, and the incident itself occurred near the Palanka–Mayaki–Udobne border crossing, where a projectile struck just minutes before he passed through.

Despite this, the politician continued his visit, meeting with representatives of Jewish communities alongside Ambassador Roy Rosenblit and Alon Shoham, head of the “Nativ” organization, after which he held talks with the head of state.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the security situation, threats in the Middle East, and Russia’s use of Iranian technology to develop jet-powered UAVs. “We discussed these and other threats, as well as the situation in the Middle East in general. Strong relations between Ukraine and Israel could certainly enhance our shared security,” Zelenskyy noted.

This was reported by Israeli media.

On the morning of Monday, October 5, a Russian missile struck the Palanka–Mayaki–Udobne border crossing. One Moldovan border guard was injured.

The missile struck a passenger bus near the “Palanka” border crossing on the border between Ukraine and Moldova. The bus was a scheduled service that was hit not far from the border crossing.
