An investigation is underway in Zhytomyr Oblast into the death of a soldier; a 17-year-old girl has been detained
Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an active-duty Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier in the Zhytomyr region, which occurred after he met with a 17-year-old resident of the Berdychiv district. The girl has been detained; she stated that she was acting on instructions from a handler in Russia. Investigative proceedings are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
The girl was detained on June 5, 2026. Under the procedural guidance of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a notice of suspicion is being prepared for her.
According to the detainee, she acted on instructions from a handler in Russia who contacted her via Telegram.
According to preliminary data, on June 3, the woman met with the serviceman. While drinking alcohol together at his residence, she claims to have added methadone, which she had received by mail, to his drink, after which she left the apartment.
The next day, the man was found dead.
The investigation is currently ongoing. A forensic medical examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
The preliminary legal classification is Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional homicide).
