Naftogaz sold gas on the exchange for the first time in four years
On Wednesday, May 20, Naftogaz Trading Gas Supply Company LLC successfully sold natural gas on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange for the first time since January 2022.
This was reported by the industry publication ExPro, which analyzed the latest trends in the domestic energy market.
This event marks the state trader’s full return to market operations in the public sphere.
The company, which had only officially returned to the exchange the day before with an offer to sell fuel, sold 1 million cubic meters of May gas on Wednesday at a price of 26,500 UAH/thousand cubic meters (including VAT).
This step indicates a gradual stabilization of the commercial sector and a restoration of trading liquidity. Industry experts view this activity by a key market player positively.
As a reminder, on May 14, Naftogaz Trading purchased natural gas on the exchange for the first time in the last 10 months, and within a week, the company had fully resumed gas sales.
The Astana International Financial Centre Court has authorized the compulsory collection of approximately $1.4 billion from the Russian company Gazprom in favor of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
As a reminder, in 2025, mobile internet was cut off more than 11,000 times in Russia.
Furthermore, sanctions, the loss of foreign markets, and the deterioration of the global economic situation have exposed the structural weakness of Russia’s regional budgets.
