Prisoner exchange: The Coordination Headquarters explains how the list of 1,000 was compiled
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has reported that negotiations on an exchange between Ukraine and Russia are ongoing. The Ukrainian side has submitted the so-called “List of 1,000,” compiled based on the length of time individuals have spent in Russian captivity.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
This was made possible by the results of negotiations mediated by the United States, which took place the day before. It is noted that compiling the list based on the length of captivity was repeatedly agreed upon by authorized negotiators from Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
“This is a fair humanitarian approach, carried out with the participation and support of the United States of America, which demonstrates to the whole world the Ukrainian state’s concern for its defenders and is one of the steps toward a just peace,” the statement reads.
The Coordination Headquarters noted that the negotiation process is currently ongoing. To maintain its effectiveness, it urged all parties to refrain from spreading unverified information from unofficial sources.
As a reminder, Ukraine is preparing a large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia with U.S. mediation.
According to Yury Ushakov, an adviser to the Russian dictator, Ukraine and Russia are currently working on lists of people who could be included in the exchange. “Today, the agencies of the Russian Federation and Ukraine are to finalize the lists for the exchange of prisoners of war within the framework of the ceasefire. A 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine could take place fairly quickly if the lists are agreed upon,” Ushakov told Russian media.
