Law enforcement officials have established that a resident of Odesa was involved in an international cybercrime scheme linked to the theft of user accounts from an online store in the United States. According to the investigation, the attackers obtained session data from customers of a foreign online store in California and infected their devices with infostealer-type malware. As a result of the cyberattack, nearly 30,000 user accounts were compromised.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
Between 2024 and 2025, the attackers gained unauthorized access to more than 28,000 customer accounts at an online store in California.
Subsequently, the hackers used at least 5,800 accounts to make unauthorized purchases totaling approximately $721,000, resulting in financial losses, including chargebacks, amounting to over $250,000 or the equivalent of 11 million hryvnias.
During the investigation, law enforcement identified an 18-year-old suspect residing in Odesa who administered the online infrastructure for processing, selling, and using the stolen session data. He used cryptocurrency services for financial transactions with his accomplices.
