There are plans to posthumously award Alexei Yukov the title of Hero of Ukraine

A petition has been posted on the website of the President of Ukraine calling for the posthumous conferral of the title of Hero of Ukraine on Oleksiy Yukov, the late leader of the “Platsdarm” search and rescue team.

The authors of the petition call for his contributions and work to be recognized by awarding him the highest state honor; they also emphasize that for over ten years, Yukov was involved in locating and repatriating the remains of fallen Ukrainian defenders, working in the most dangerous combat zones.

“Using his own funds and with the help of volunteers, he assembled a team of like-minded individuals and ventured into areas inaccessible to search operations. On numerous occasions, Oleksiy and members of his team were wounded; several searchers were killed or maimed,” the petition states.

The authors of the document note that Yukov “served the people of Ukraine for more than ten years and recovered the bodies of defenders, sparing neither his health nor his life,” and therefore ask the head of state to award him the highest state title posthumously.

The petition must gather 25,000 signatures. At the time of this report, 9,757 people had signed it.

Oleksiy Yukov, the leader of the “Platsdarm” search and rescue team from Sloviansk, has died.

Earlier, arm-wrestling champion Ihor Hladkyi was killed on the front lines.

Dmytro Gladirenko, a saxophonist from Chernihiv, was killed on the front lines.
