A retiree hired someone to kill his ex-wife for $10,000 over property
In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers detained a 70-year-old man suspected of hiring someone to kill his ex-wife for $10,000. According to the investigation, after 33 years of marriage, conflicts arose between the former spouses over the division of property, as well as due to jealousy.
The investigation established that the man gave the “contract killer” a $5,000 down payment, photographs of the woman, her home address, and a floor plan of the house. He was to pay another $5,000 after the murder. In addition, the suspect allegedly planned to forge a will to take possession of his ex-wife’s property, for which he promised an additional $3,000.
To prevent the crime, law enforcement staged the murder: the woman was given professional makeup, photographed as if she were dead, and the photos were sent to the client. Believing that the murder had taken place, the man transferred the second portion of the promised reward, after which he was arrested.

He was notified that he is suspected of organizing an attempted murder for financial gain, committed on commission. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
